Believer -

Thanks for commenting. I agree with you completely. The reason for overreaction to the demonic is due to its marginalization in Western society. It does not play into our daily lives (or at least we think it doesn't) because it lies beyond the material realm of empirical knowledge. That makes most people "practical atheists" - though they believe in the spirit world it affects their lives so little that they get along just fine without ackowledging it.

Thanks again,

Sam,

I enjoyed your article and I have to say that I agree with it completely. It is true that Christians have been given authority over demons, and that they are unable to hurt humans unless we either intentionally or unwittingly invite them into our lives. Perhaps the reason why most humans would be scared out of their wits if confronted by an inhuman spirit lies in the fact that they remain largely unknown. The average Christian wakes up in the morning, goes to work, raises kids, pays bills, etc. When this topic is introduced in their everyday lives, they are woefully ignorant (and perhaps a tad bit unbelieving) of the subject because they are too busy living in today's world. As a result, their senses are tuned not to spiritual matters, but to the physical world and everything that is tangible around us. Anyway, I enjoyed your article and I hope you decide to submit again.

Thanks Robert. Enough experience to know its important and valid, but also enough to have seen a little too much spooky dust. It's easy to get carried away with the demonic but to me, doesn't that fascination and allure belong to the King of Kings? I hear a big fat "AMEN!" resonating throughout cyberspace... :)

Sam, great article! You had me laughing when you posted about yelling at demons. I have heard a few do that as well. Well balanced approach to this subject, and it sounds like you have had some practical experience with this as well.
